What Is SCRIP?
When you purchase SCRIP cards, you are purchasing prepaid gift cards and gift certificates that are used just like cash. You can use SCRIP to purchase everyday items such as groceries, gas, clothing, prescriptions, toys, as well as other essentials and best of all, there's no expiration date! The cards make excellent birthday and Christmas gifts, but we encourage all families to use them to pay for everyday purchases.
Purchasing SCRIP cards is one of the easiest ways for your family to support Sacred Heart School -- AND it doesn't cost you anything more than you already planned to spend! The SCRIP program plays an important role in our school fundraising. Since its inception in November of 2007, we've sold nearly $1,000,000 in SCRIP cards, with a profit of over $40,000.00 for our school!! This program is run by volunteers, and 100% of the proceeds go to Sacred Heart Parish. Thank you to the many school and parish families and friends of Sacred Heart who continue to purchase SCRIP cards!
How does SCRIP generate revenue?
Bulk amounts of DISCOUNTED gift cards and certificates are purchased by Sacred Heart from local and national merchants, and then sold to families and businesses like yours for FULL face value. That discount, ranging from 1-29%, is retained by Sacred Heart. With many of you choosing to shop with SCRIP cards instead of cash or credit, over $40,000 has been generated for Sacred Heart since its inception in November 2007.
How are SCRIP funds utilized?
SCRIP funds have purchased many “extras” for our school, including:
- Rosetta Stone Spanish software
- LCD projector for resource room
- Headphones and microphones for school laptops
- “Trade books” for various classrooms
- Electric pencil sharpeners for K-8
- Computer monitors
- Books for PreK-8 classroom libraries
- Music books for K-8
- CANstruction supplies
- Classroom games and toys
- Copy/fax machine
A portion of SCRIP profit has also gone back into the SCRIP program so that we may continue to keep a wide variety of cards IN STOCK, while growing the program and participation. This has enabled us to add a second location, making it more convenient for you! SCRIP cards can now be purchased at Baseball Card Connection and the Sacred Heart Church Office.
Who decides how SCRIP funds are spent?
The teachers at Sacred Heart School have assembled a list of items needed for their classrooms. This list as well as overall school needs are discussed among the principal, the school board, and the SCRIP coordinators. The principal and the parish priest make the final decision as to how SCRIP funds are used.
How can I get involved with SCRIP?
- Purchase SCRIP cards instead of using cash or credit.
- Volunteer to sell SCRIP cards in the Church office M-F from
8am-10:30am or from 10:30am-1pm. Contact Christy at 347.7177 to schedule your shift. - Join the SCRIP Committee. Suggest ideas to promote SCRIP. Contact the parish office or email c.hakman@sheff.org for more info.
