Frequently Asked Questions

If my child is not Catholic, can he/she attend Sacred Heart School?
YES! We welcome children of all faiths. We feel that students of other faiths help to make the presence of Jesus a greater felt reality among all our students during the school day. Arrangements can be made, when requested, to exempt students of other faiths from the weekly Eucharist, (i.e. Catholic Mass) and Catholic catechism classes.

Is there an after-school program?
Yes, the Clubhouse. Located in our school, the Clubhouse provides after school care until 5:30 P.M., and allows students the opportunity to play games, have a snack, and receive homework assistance when needed. Contact Ms. Tracy Roderick at 347-5754 for more information.

What type of computer technology is available?
SHS has a state-of-the-art computer lab. Computers are also available in all of the classrooms and in the library. There is controlled access to the Internet for school projects. The student to computer ratio is 2:1. The school is also equipped with seven SMART Boards (interactive whiteboards).

What can you tell me about the atmosphere at Sacred Heart School?
SHS offers a positive learning environment where students are given an educational and spiritual foundation that promotes achievement. More importantly, it is an environment where secular subjects are learned in the context of God's role in every aspect of our lives. This environment is enhanced with mutual support between faculty and students, as well as between the students themselves.  Students experience an innovative approach to curriculum that integrates technology, promotes creativity, and actively engages students on exploration and inquiry.

Is there an opportunity for parents to be involved in the school?
YES! Parent volunteerism is essential to successfully meeting the needs of all students and a vital part of the enrichment of our school environment.

Is there bus service to and from the school?
Yes. SHS students utilize bus services through the Transportation Office of Effingham Unit 40.

Is there a hot lunch program?
Yes. Students may receive a hot lunch for $1.75 per day. Extra milk is available at $0.25.
