What is the PTA?
The PTA (Parent/Teacher Association) organizes fundraisers for the benefit of our students and staff at Sacred Heart School. The funds we raise are used to provide items like additional books and supplies for our classrooms, wish list items for our teachers, Catholic Schools Week activities (taking students bowling or to a movie), Santa visits and Christmas gifts for students, Teacher Appreciation Week festivities, End of School Picnic/Assembly, and upkeep of the parish kitchen. The students have also enjoyed the Educational Assemblies which have included School House Rock musical performances, Irish folk singers, and reptile shows.
This year, the PTA has the following fundraisers planned:
Soup Supper and Country Carnival (Sunday, November 7, 2010)
Fish Fry during Lent
Pig-Out Breakfast (Sunday, April 10, 2010)
We ask for your support of these events not only in your attendance, but also in volunteering to work a shift. This is a great opportunity to work alongside other parents and get to know the families of Sacred Heart School. Signup sheets will be available in the weeks leading up to each planned event.
Every parent of each Sacred Heart School students is a member of PTA; however, being an active member of the PTA offers many benefits. It keeps parents involved in the day-to-day happenings, and it enables you to meet other parents and to be a vital part of your child's educational success. We extend an invitation to all parents to atteend our first planning meeting scheduled for Wednesday, September 1st at 6:30pm in the school library.
Being on the planning committee simply requires a strong desire and commitment to become involved in helping our school, students, teachers, and staff. Our meeting are held the first Wednesday of the month (during school months only). It is not required that you attend every meeting, but your attendance allows you to give your input into new ideas and/or tweaking past ideas and events.
Family involvement promotes student success, and students with involved parents are more likely to accomplish the following:
> Earn higher grades and test scores
> Be promoted, pass their classes, and earn credits
> Attend school regularly
> Have better social skills, show improved behavior, and adapt well to school
> Graduate and pursue postsecondary education
Plus, when families, schools, and communities work together:
> Student achievement improves
> Teacher morale rises
> Communication among parents, teachers, and administrators increases
> Family, school, and community connections multiply
If you are interested in becoming an active member of our PTA, please contact the school office at 217.347.7177. We'll have the PTA President contact you with information. Thanks for your interest in Sacred Heart School PTA!
