We're blessed to have been celebrating over 125 years of faith and family at Sacred Heart Parish! Our church and school were started in 1892, and today we continue the mission and vision put in place by our founding members. Living true to this mission, "Grounded in Faith, Focused on the Future", we are proud to have a strong foundation of faith, which empowers us to move boldly into the future as we seek to make disciples and share God's love. It is an honor to serve and help provide for the spiritual, educational, and social needs of our parish and school family, as well as the community we serve.
A Long and Vibrant History
Sacred Heart Catholic Church has enjoyed a long and vibrant history. The original church was built on the corner of Fayette Avenue and Banker Street in Effingham, and served the parish until the present church "in the round" was built on South Henrietta Street in 1969. In 2020, we completed a church restoration project which updated our sanctuary and added a narthex gathering space for parishioners and guests to enjoy before and after Mass, as well as for small events and parish gatherings. In 2025, additional projects were completed to enhance several exterior areas on our campus (including a new water feature, new signage, beautified entrances, and a new pavilion). Both campaigns were funded by generous parishioners, school families, community businesses, and friends of Sacred Heart.
