Confirmation is the Sacrament that strengthens the new life that began with Baptism. It is sometimes referred to as a maturity in faith. The Ritual of the Sacrament says: "Be sealed with the Holy Spirit". Confirmation seals a person with the gifts of Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude (Courage), Knowledge, Piety (Reverence), and Fear of the Lord (Wonder and Awe).

Beginning in the spring of 2019, all parishes within the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois are restoring the Original Order of the Sacraments of Initiation. Therefore, Confirmation and Eucharist are received together, both during third grade.
