Annunciation by Fra Angelico
As described in Luke 1:26‐28, the Annunciation is when the Archangel Gabriel told Mary that she was chosen by God to conceive and bear His son, Jesus. The Annunciation is an event that remains at the core of many Christian teachings and is, therefore, a popular subject among artists. It appealed to artist Fra Angelico so much that he completed a series of Annunciation pieces, not just the one we have at Sacred Heart. His Annunciation pieces each focus on different aspects and circumstances surrounding the Annunciation event.
