The Incredulity of Saint Thomas by Caravaggio

The Incredulity of Saint Thomas is one of the most famous paintings by Italian artist, Caravaggio. It was painted in the year 1602 and depicts the moment when the apostle Thomas doubted that it was really Jesus standing in front of him. As told in the Gospel of John, Thomas missed one of Jesus' appearances to the Apostles after His resurrection, and said, "Unless I see the mark of the nails in His hands and put my finger into the nail marks and put my hand into His side, I will not believe." (John 20:25) A week later, Jesus appeared and told Thomas to touch Him and stop doubting. Jesus said, "Have you come to believe because you have seen Me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed." (John 20:29) Present day, as you reflect on this painting, remember to stay strong in your faith. Even though you can't physically see Jesus, He is there with you every step of the way.
