Christ Crucified by Velazquez
With Christ's death and resurrection being at the center of Catholicism and Christianity, it is only fitting that we include a painting of His crucifixion in our art collection. The beautiful Christ on the Cross painting was completed by Diego Velazquez in 1632. In this painting, there is no landscape in the background and no people shown around Him. It is simply Jesus Christ on the cross. With the simplicity of the painting, it allows us to truly focus on Jesus and reflect on what He did for us. His death on the cross took away our sins and His resurrection opens the gates of Heaven for us. Take a moment to reflect on that truth and thank Him for His sacrifice.
