The Baptism of Christ by Andrea del Verrocchio & Leonardo da Vinci
The Baptism of Christ is a famous 1472 painting by Andrea del Verroccio, Leonardo da Vinci's master. Leonardo da Vinci helped with several aspects of the painting, including the blonde angel on the left and the landscape in the background. It is his involvement that helps make this work famous. The Baptism of Christ portrays St. John the Baptist at the time of Jesus' baptism with two angels on the left side holding Jesus' clothes. God's extended arms are shown with golden rays, accompanied by a dove whose wings are spread. On top of St. John the Baptist's and Jesus' heads are halos. The monks of the San Salvi Church, located near Florence, Italy, commissioned the painting and it remained there until 1530. Present day the original painting is located at the Academy of Florence, an art museum in Florence, Italy.
